Yesterday morning before school a LARGE beetle, probably an inch and a half long, had the attention of many first graders. Thanks be to God the beetle was up high on the pillar. As we looked together, one of the first graders was telling me about the beetle, how good that kind is as it eats other bugs, etc. As I listened to his slight lisp and noticed he was missing a few teeth, an odd dichotomy hit me. It is really odd to listen to a six year old teach a cohesive science lesson.
The child before me who just lost some baby teeth is teaching me scientific facts about the insect before us. It just goes to show you, we can learn from all people if we are willing to pay attention.
